Died 5-APR-2007, Marquette General Hospital, Marquette, MI Notes Obituary from the Sault Evening News: Elmer Howard Ross, age 81, of Marquette entered eternal peace at Marquette General Hospital in Marquette on Thursday, April 5, 2007. Elmer was born August 6, 1925 to Elmer and Annie Ross in DeTour Village. Prior to moving to Marquette, he was a lifelong resident of Detour Village. Elmer, better known as Sam, enjoyed gardening, cooking, raising pets, collecting antiques, refinishing furniture, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a United States Marine during WWII serving in the Pacific. He was also a member of the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians. He is survived by a son ,Howard (Valerie) Ross of Mattawan, Mich. and daughter Cathy (Mike) Hamel of Cedarville; seven grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. Elmer was preceded in death by daughter Linda Ross; and former wife and life-long friend Vivian Chaltry. A visitation period followed by a memorial service will be held at the former Ross Funeral Home in Pickford,on April 13, 2007 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Paul Gruenberg officiating. |

Marie, MI Notes Obituary from Sault Evening News, February 20, 2004: Vivian Ida Chaltry, age 70, of Menominee passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 16, 2004 at War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie. She was born on June 26, 1933 in Detroit to Leonardo J. and Clara (Crawford) Celestra. Antiquing, sewing, games of chance and listening to "Tradio" were among the things Vivian enjoyed. Vivian is survived by one son, Howard (Valerie) Ross of Fife Lake; two daughters, Linda Ross of DeTour Village and Cathy (Mike) Hamel of Cedarville; six grandchildren: Scott Cradduck, Krista (Darren) Mitchell, Jennifer (Jeff) Tortenson, Danielle Cradduck, Sam Ross and Ian Ross; and six great-grandchildren: Avery and Tracey Mitchell, Alexandria and Sierra Newland, Kenneth Tortenson and Dakota Fairchild. Also surviving are one sister, Leona Garret of Madison Heights, and lifelong friend, Elmer Ross of DeTour Village. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Chaltry, on December 24, 1999, and by her parents. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Reamer Galer Funeral Home in Pickford made arrangements for the family.
